Small Business COVID-19 Adaption Grant (Round 2)

What it isA Queensland Government grant of between $2,000 and $10,000.
Who it is forSmall businesses subject to closure or highly impacted by COVID-19 shutdown restrictions.
How it assistsSupports small businesses to adapt and sustain their operations and build resilience.
Who is eligibleTo be eligible, a small business must:

  • Employ 1-19 staff (not including the owner, staff must be on the payroll, sole traders must employ at least one other person)
  • Have a valid ABN, active as at 23 March 2020 and be registered for GST
  • Have Queensland headquarters
  • Have turnover greater than $75,000pa for FY2019 or FY2020 (or provide financials that show this will be met for recently started businesses) 
  • Evidence of a minimum 30% revenue decline since 23 March 2020, over a minimum 1-month period due to COVID-19
  • Have payroll less than $1.3m
  • Not be insolvent or have undischarged bankrupt owners or directors.
How the funding can be usedFunds can be used towards any of the activities listed below, which occurred from 23 March 2020 onwards. Invoices are required for verification and the project must be completed within a maximum of six months from approval.

  • Financial, legal or other professional advice to support business sustainability and diversification
  • Business operational costs (e.g. utilities, rates, rent, phone, internet, insurance, and licensing fees)
  • Strategic planning, financial counselling or business coaching aligned to business development and diversification
  • Marketing and communication activities (e.g. content development, web pages, mobile apps, visual and audio media)
  • Digital/technological training or development
  • Capital costs to meet COVID-19 safety requirements
  • Specialised digital equipment or business specific software to move business operations online.
What the funding cannot be used forActivities that cannot be funded include:

  • Those with a total cost less than $2,000
  • Business costs supported by other government financial assistance
  • Salaries or wages for employees, including superannuation or WorkCover
  • Services delivered in-kind (i.e. financial transactions only)
  • Purchase of business assets (e.g. stock or fleet vehicles/machinery)
  • Services and/or goods provided by related parties
  • Direct-selling businesses (e.g. party plan and network marketing)
  • Goods or services purchased or payments made prior to 23 March 2020.
Important datesThe grant is open for applications from 1 July 2020 and will close when the funding allocation is exhausted.

Regional Queensland and South East Queensland have independent funding allocations and may close at different times.

Tips for applying
  • Applications will be processed on a 'first come, first served' basis.
  • This round may only be open for a short period due to demand, best to apply as soon as applications open.
  • Only one application per round is permitted from each ABN or a financial beneficiary (e.g. director, owner) of a business.
  • Applicants who were unsuccessful in Round 1 or are awaiting Round 1 assessment are eligible to apply, but will only be eligible for one approved grant across both rounds.
